Franklin G. 'Greg' Fisk obituary

Dr. Franklin G. "Greg" Fisk, a science education teacher at Western Michigan University, died Dec. 28. He was 80.

Fisk joined the WMU faculty in 1969 as an associate professor of science in the School of General Studies and taught half time in that school and half time in the College of Education's teacher education program. He retired in 1997 as a professor emeritus of science studies after 28 years of service to the University.

While at WMU, Fisk directed two National Science Foundation summer institutes in the History and Philosophy of Science for Secondary Science Teachers. He also authored two textbooks, "The Physical Sciences, which he co-wrote, and "Exploring Matter and Energy," which he also co-wrote.

Prior to joining WMU's faculty, Fisk co-wrote the Anderson-Fisk Chemistry as well as taught at the University of Kansas, Lawrence; Northeast Missouri State University, Kirksville; and Pennsylvania State University, State College. He earned a bachelor's, master's and doctoral degree from UK.

The Portage, Mich., resident was an active member of the First Baptist Church of Kalamazoo, and he had a passion for music, especially contemporary classical music.
