KALAMAZOO—Action by the Western Michigan University Board of Trustees during their July 25 meeting means the WMU academic unit that is the home to instruction in the world's languages will get a new name.
The Department of World Languages and Literatures is the new name for what was the Department of Foreign Languages. The new name was selected to be more inclusive, better reflect the intentions of the college and University's strategic plans and be in keeping with national trends for similar units.
The Department of World Languages and Literatures is WMU's instructional home for Arabic, Chinese, the classics, French, German, Italian, Japanese, Latin, and Russian.
