Jazz vocalist returns for distinguished alumni concert
KALAMAZOO—Western Michigan University alumna Kate Reid returns to the Dalton Center Recital Hall at 8 p.m. Friday, Oct. 12, to perform as part of the School of Music's Distinguished Alumni Series. Admission is free.
An accomplished jazz vocalist and pianist, Reid will appear with bassist Tom Knific and drummer Keith Hall. Reid earned a Bachelor of Music degree from WMU in 1992, and was a standout in the new WMU Jazz Studies program at that time.
Kate Reid
Reid, now based in Los Angeles, is heard performing regularly at top jazz venues and is a major presence in the studio scene in Hollywood, appearing on soundtracks for major motion pictures. She can also be heard singing with major artists and ensembles ranging from The Duke Ellington Orchestra to Josh Groban. She is a professor of music at Cypress College in California, where she is chair of the music department and also heads the jazz program.
