Joe R. Chapel obituary

Joe R. Chapel, a former Western Michigan University faculty member, died Dec. 1. He was 73.

Chapel joined the WMU faculty in 1965 and retired in 2000 after 35 years of service to the University. He was an associate professor of teaching, learning and leadership; director of the Dorothy J. McGinnis Reading Center and Clinic; and administrator and site coordinator of the Michigan Reading Recovery Program.

Remembrances

Visitation will be from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. on Thursday, Dec. 6, at Pederson Funeral Home, 127 N. Monroe St., Rockford, Mich.

A memorial service will be at 11 a.m. Friday, Dec. 7, at Pederson Funeral Home.

Memorial gifts may be made to the WMU Dorothy J. McGinnis Reading Center and Clinic in care of Joe Chapel Scholarship Fund.
