Junne G. Martin obituary

Junne G. Martin, a former Western Michigan University staff member, died Tuesday, June 26. She was 86.

Martin, of Adamstown, Md., came to WMU in 1969 and retired in 1991 after 22 years of service to the University. She began her WMU career in what had been the Department of Counseling and Personnel.

Later in her tenure, Martin joined the orientation unit in the Office of Admissions, assisting incoming new students as well as supervising the University's student orientation leaders. Over the ensuing years, she touched the lives of thousands of incoming students. In addition, she and her husband hosted numerous events for the University's student orientation leaders.

Martin earned a bachelor's degree in communication from Northwestern University. She was a former secretary of the National Orientation Society, a member of the Sigma Kappa Sorority and a longtime member of the First Presbyterian Church of Kalamazoo.

Although the Martins continued to love the Kalamazoo area, the couple moved to Adamstown in 2001 to be near family.
