Concerto Competition finals highlight accomplished students

Concerto Competition finals Feb. 10

KALAMAZOO—Western Michigan University’s School of Music Concerto Competition finals will take place at 5:30 p.m. Sunday, Feb. 10, in the Dalton Center Recital Hall. The event is free and open to the public.

Contestants are finalists from each applied area (brass and percussion, keyboard, string, voice, and woodwind) and the winners will perform as soloists with the University Symphony Orchestra at the annual concerto concert Sunday, April 14.

Competition judges

  • Huw Lewis, professor of organ at Hope College
  • David Reimer, associate professor of violin at Calvin College and director of the Calvin String Summit
  • John Varineau, associate conductor of the Grand Rapids Symphony, music director of the Grand Rapids Youth Symphony and professor of clarinet at Calvin College
