Jazz pianist and composer to give concert with quintet
KALAMAZOO—New York-based jazz pianist and composer Kris Davis and her quintet will perform at 7:30 p.m. Monday, Feb. 18, in Western Michigan University's Dalton Center Lecture Hall. The event is free and open to the public.
Kris Davis
JazzTimes has hailed Davis as a musician who offers "uncommon creative adventure," while MacArthur fellow Jason Moran has declared her an "important, freethinking gifted pianist on the scene." Davis is touring in support of her latest CD, "Capricorn Climber," with quintet members Matt Maneri on viola, Ingrid Laubrock on saxophone, Evind Ospvick on bass and Tom Rainey on drums.
Davis says, "Blurring the line between composition and improvisation is always my ideal, but it’s particularly the case with this band. This album is very much about the sound of surprise."
