Dr. Ruth M. Davis obituary
Dr. Ruth M. Davis, Western Michigan University professor emerita of health, physical education and recreation, died Dec. 16, 2012. She was 89.
Davis, of Cross Village, Mich., came to WMU in 1961 and retired in 1986 after 24 years of service to the University.

Starting in 1976, she served a stint as director of graduate studies in what is now the Department of Human Performance and Health Education. In that role, Davis was responsible for initiating new programs, improving existing programs, and scheduling classes and workshops.
She was a member of the American Association of Health, Physical Education and Recreation and its Michigan affiliate as well as a member of the National Education and Michigan Education associations.
Prior to coming to the University, Davis taught in the Adrian (Mich.) Public Schools for nine years and also served as coordinator of elementary physical education for seven years. In 1956-57, she took a year off from her employment with the Adrian schools to do guidance work with the U.S. Air Force Independent Schools in Wiesbaden, Germany.
Davis earned a bachelor's and master's degree from Bowling Green State University and a doctoral degree from Ohio State University.
