Avis M. Sparks obituary
Avis M. Sparks, a former Western Michigan University staff member, died March 11. She was 92.
Sparks was hired full time by WMU in 1967 and retired in 1984 after more than 16 years of service to the University.
At the time of her retirement, Sparks was a first cook in the Draper Dining Service. Her online obituary says she was affiliated with WMU for a total of 20 years, initially working for a department within the College of Engineering and Applied Sciences.
A lifelong resident of the Kalamazoo area, Sparks was a member of the American Business Women's Association, a Girl Scout leader and a volunteer for the March of Dimes. She was an avid reader who enjoyed traveling, puzzles and spending time with her family.
