WMU public safety officers quickly arrest suspect

The suspect accused of two on-campus assaults was quickly apprehended.

KALAMAZOO—A suspect was taken into custody two and a half hours after a pair of assaults was reported on the Western Michigan University campus.

The assaults occurred within a 10-minute period around 7 a.m. The first occurred near the West Michigan Ave. pedestrian tunnel; the second occurred in the vicinity of Sangren Hall. Two male victims contacted WMU Public Safety describing the suspect. Property was stolen and one victim was slightly injured and treated at the scene.

The suspect left the scene of the second assault heading west. The Kalamazoo Department of Public Safety then took a call reporting someone matching the suspect's description had tried to gain access to a Western View student residence on the west end of campus. At 9:20 a.m., the suspect was taken into custody at Western View by the WMU Department of Public Safety.

Property stolen during the assaults was recovered.
