KALAMAZOO—The Western Michigan University Board of Trustees approved a recommendation during its July 18 meeting to eliminate the major and minor in American studies.
A faculty committee reviewed the entire American studies program in 2009 and concluded that all facets of it should be removed from the curriculum. Formal action was never taken to accomplish that. At present, the major and minor are dormant, with no students enrolled and no resources attached to them.
