WMU trustees to meet, consider medical school property lease

KALAMAZOO—Western Michigan University's Board of Trustees will meet on campus at 1 p.m. Wednesday, Sept. 18, in 157-159 Bernhard Center to consider a range of issues, including a property lease agreement with the new WMU School of Medicine.

The lease agreement being considered by the board is for the W.E. Upjohn Campus at 300 Portage St. in downtown Kalamazoo. The building is now undergoing a $69.5 million renovation. The lease agreement calls for the School of Medicine to lease the facility from the University with rental payments sufficient to pay the principal and interest on indebtedness incurred for the cost of renovation.

The trustees also will consider reports on personnel issues and program changes as well as information on gifts and grants received since the July 1 start of the University's 2013-14 fiscal year.
