KALAMAZOO—Anti-racism activist and author Tim Wise will speak on "Beyond Diversity: Challenging Racism in an Age of Backlash" at 5:30 p.m. Wednesday, Nov. 6, in Western Michigan University's South Ballroom Center of the Bernhard Center.

He will critique diversity efforts on campuses and in corporate America. The presentation focuses on how most tolerance training fails to address the fundamental structures of racism and inequality. Focusing on personal prejudice rather than institutional bias is shown to be inadequate for building an anti-racist environment. The negative impact that results from failing to address structural racism will be discussed in detail.

A native of Tennessee, Wise has given speeches at more than 600 college campuses across the country.
