Trustees approve retirements, faculty personnel moves

KALAMAZOO—The retirements of nine staff members were approved by the Western Michigan University Board of Trustees at its Sept. 18 meeting.

Trustees also signed off on one faculty resignation as well as three faculty promotions, three faculty leaves and the return of three administrators to the faculty.

Staff retirements

The staff members retiring, along with their positions, years of continuous service and effective dates of retirement, are:

  • Lorraine A. Caron, announcer/producer, WMUK Radio, 22 years, effective Sept. 30, 2013
  • Patricia "Pat" Hale, office coordinator, Office of the Associate Dean, Division of Student Affairs, 18 years, effective Oct. 31, 2013
  • Deborah J. Hallock, custodian, Facilities Management-building custodial and support services, 26 years, effective Oct. 31, 2013
  • Raymond G. Hallock, carpet/tile layer, Facilities Management-maintenance services, 34 years, effective Oct. 31, 2013
  • Dr. Patricia Hollahan, managing editor, Medieval Institute Publications, 11 years, effective Dec. 31, 2013

Faculty leaves

  • Dr. Susan L. Caulfield (sabbatical leave), professor of interdisciplinary health programs, effective for spring semester 2014; she also stepped down Sept. 3, 2013, as director of academic collective bargaining after six years
  • Dr. Linda H. Zoeller (sabbatical leave), professor of nursing, effective fall semester 2013
  • Dr. Quentin Smith (leave of absence), professor of philosophy, effective Aug. 18, 2013, through May 1, 2014
