KALAMAZOO—The Kalamazoo Film Society will present "Belle" May 23-29, at the Alamo Drafthouse in downtown Kalamazoo. Showings have been extended through June 5.

Show times are announced shortly before to movie opens. Admission is $5.50 for film society members and regular Alamo Drafthouse prices for the general public .

"Belle" is based on the true story of Dido Elizabeth Belle, the illegitimate mixed-race daughter of a British General who was raised by a great uncle, the Lord Chief Justice, and his wife. Belle's aristocratic lineage affords her certain privileges, yet the status of her birth prevents her from the traditions of noble social standing. As she nears adulthood, she watches as her beautiful cousin is courted by eligible suitors, then by chance encounters an idealistic vicar's son. The two, fueled by love, courageously petition the Chief Justice to help end slavery in England.

Starring Gugu Mbatha-Raw, Emily Watson, Tom Wilkerson and Matthew Goode, and directed by Amma Asante, the film is rated PG for adult elements and language with a run time of 105 minutes.
