5k race benefits organization that helps injured veterans

KALAMAZOO, Mich.—An inaugural 5k run and walk event on Saturday, Sept. 27, at Western Michigan University will benefit Homes for Our Troops, a private non-profit organization supporting injured veterans.

Hosted by the Alpha Sigma Phi fraternity, registration begins at 8 a.m. for the run at Kanley Track. Sign-up prior to the day of the race is $25 and available at asp5k.com. Registration is $30 on the day of the race.

A pre-race kickoff includes a joint service color guard, National Anthem and a guest speaker. The start of the race will be signaled by mascot Boomer the Cannon.

Participants will receive a race T-shirt and complimentary refreshments after the race, courtesy of Kalamazoo-area race sponsors.
