Local artist to display work, lead discussion on culture shift
KALAMAZOO, Mich.—Western Michigan University's Real Talk Diversity Series continues this month with an art exhibit and discussion regarding acculturation and the debate about identity and patriotism.
Psychotherapist and artist Alessandra Santos-Pye of Kalamazoo will present "From assimilation to integration: The acculturation journey of a Brazilian American" from 6:30 to 8 p.m. Tuesday, Sept. 30, in the Multicultural Center in the Adrian Trimpe Building. Refreshments will be provided.
Santos-Pye will provide an interactive dialogue surrounding her exhibit, a series of paintings depicting a shift from "assimilation" to "integration" of "self and culture."
