Flagstar Bank CEO to open Distinguished Speaker Series

KALAMAZOO, Mich.—Alessandro DiNello, president, CEO and director of Flagstar Bank and Flagstar Bancorp, will be the first speaker in Western Michigan University's 2014-15 Distinguished Speaker Series.

DiNello will speak at 5 p.m. Thursday, Oct. 23, in Room 2000 of Schneider Hall. His presentation, titled "How Western Shaped My Life," will be followed by a question-and-answer period. Registrations are requested to attend. The event is free and open to the public and being hosted by the Haworth College of Business. Alessandro DiNello

As CEO of Flagstar Bank, DiNello has played a critical role in strengthening the bank's risk management, compliance and quality control. Previously, he was president and chief administrative officer of Flagstar Bank, and for a number of years, executive vice president of personal financial services.

After earning his bachelor's degree in accountancy from WMU, DiNello began his banking career as a bank examiner and later joined Security Savings Bank in Jackson, where he ultimately served as president. In 1994, Security Savings was acquired by First Security Savings Bank, which later became Flagstar Bank. DiNello continued with the combined organization as an executive officer responsible for growing the bank's funding sources.

DiNello has served Flagstar as head of branch banking, retail product strategy, marketing, communications, Internet banking and branch expansion. He also led the bank's government affairs and community relations initiatives. His industry and professional affiliations include serving on the boards of directors of the Business Leaders of Michigan and the Michigan Bankers Association. Additionally, he has served on the Michigan Electronic Recording Commission as an appointee of Michigan Gov. Rick Snyder.
