Grammy Award-winning jazz trumpeter to perform on campus

KALAMAZOO, Mich.—Six time Grammy Award winning jazz trumpeter and composer Randy Brecker will join the Western Jazz Quartet, WMU Jazz Orchestra, WMU Jazz Lab Band and special guest, pianist Edward Simonill, in a concert at 7:30 p.m. Thursday, Feb. 5, in Western Michigan University’s Dalton Center Recital Hall.

Tickets are $20 general admission, $12 for seniors and $5 for students, and are available from Miller Auditorium at millerauditorium.com or by calling (269) 387-2300 or (800) 228-9858.

Randy Brecker

Brecker has helped shape the sound of jazz, R&B and rock for more than four decades. His trumpet and flugelhorn performances have been featured on hundreds of albums by a wide range of artists from James Taylor, Bruce Springsteen and Parliament/Funkadelic to Frank Sinatra, Steely Dan and Frank Zappa. Randy was a member of the band Blood, Sweat and Tears and later joined the Horace Silver Quintet, followed by Art Blakey’s Jazz Messengers.

Jazz Masters Series

In its fifth season, the WMU Jazz Masters Series promotes world-class artists in performance and classes for WMU students and the greater Kalamazoo public.
