Armed robbery triggers campus safety alert

KALAMAZOO, Mich.—An armed robbery occurred late today in Western Michigan University's Smith-Burnham Hall, triggering a campus safety alert.

A student was robbed of several personal belongings in a room on the fourth floor of the residence hall. The robbery happened at about 3 p.m.

The suspects, who were carrying a gun, are described as two black males age 19 to 20. One was wearing a black backpack, grey hooded sweatshirt and blue jeans. The second suspect was masked but had short dark hair and was wearing a grey sweatshirt and blue jeans. They were last seen in a building stairwell.

WMU's Department of Public Safety urges caution and vigilance as officers investigate and search for the suspects. Anyone with information about the event should call police dispatch at (269) 387-5555.
