WMU board to consider room and board rates at Battle Creek meeting

KALAMAZOO, Mich.—Room and board rates for the 2015-16 year and an airport property acquisition are among items on the agenda for a formal meeting of the Western Michigan University Board of Trustees when it gathers at the WMU College of Aviation in Battle Creek Wednesday, April 22.

Trustees will meet in formal session at 11 a.m. in Room 1207 of the Aviation Education Center at the University's aviation campus, which is located at the W.K. Kellogg Airport on Helmer Road. Those arriving early for the meeting will be able to wait in the building's nearby student lounge until the meeting time.

The meeting will put a focus on the WMU presence in Battle Creek and will include a special welcome from Capt. Dave Powell, dean of the College of Aviation. Longtime Battle Creek Unlimited chief James Hettinger is the board chair and will preside over the formal agenda, and Battle Creek resident, Trustee Mary Asmonga-Knapp, will be in attendance, as well. A number of Battle Creek community leaders also are expected to attend.

The motion to change rates for room and board is among action items on the agenda. In addition, the board will consider a motion authorizing a purchase agreement to acquire an additional hangar at Kellogg Airport for use by the College of Aviation. Trustees also will take up a motion to incorporate language in its residency policy that is in keeping with new federal legislation covering residency status for veterans and their families for tuition purposes. WMU's current policy already exceeds the requirements and spirit of the new legislation.

During the meeting, trustees also will receive and be asked to approve reports covering personnel moves, receipt of gifts and grants, and proposed changes to academic programs.
