KALAMAZOO, Mich.—Dr. Robert I. Sundick, a former Western Michigan University faculty member who was involved with forensics research and applications for decades, died June 29 in Jerusalem. He was 71.

Sundick, professor emeritus of anthropology, joined the WMU faculty in 1969 and retired in 2000 after 31 years of service to the University.

An expert in forensic anthropology, he was a popular lecturer and often assisted in local criminal justice investigations. Sundick served as chair of the Department of Anthropology from 1988 to 1998. He was a graduate of the State University of New York and received his master's and doctoral degrees from the University of Toronto.
