Boil water advisory in effect for some campus locations through Saturday evening
Update: The water main has been repaired, and water was being turned back on to French, Davis and Zimmerman halls at around 9 p.m.
Although not mandatory, the city of Kalamazoo advises that as a precautionary measure, residents in the affected halls should either consume bottled water or, if consuming water from the affected residence hall taps and drinking fountains, boil the water for at least one minute before consumption.
The three halls are under the precautionary boil water advisory until sometime on Saturday, when post-repair water testing is complete.

KALAMAZOO, Mich.—Due to a water main break, four occupied buildings on the Western Michigan University campus will be under a precautionary boil water advisory from the city of Kalamazoo from 6 p.m. Friday, Oct. 2, through the evening of Saturday, Oct. 3. The buildings are French, Davis and Zimmerman halls, known as the Little Three residence halls, and the Bistro3 dining unit. No other buildings on campus are affected
Although there's no indication the water is unsafe to drink, as a precaution, the city of Kalamazoo advises boiling water for one minute prior to drinking.
WMU is providing bottled water to the three residence halls for anyone who wishes to avoid consuming water from drinking fountains and water taps in the buildings.
As a further precaution, Bistro3 will be closed. Students who would normally get their meals from Bistro3, may get their meals from the Hoekje/Bigelow dining facility or Valley II Dining Service. Bistro3 will reopen at 7 a.m. Monday, Oct. 5.
The water in French Hall, Davis Hall and Zimmerman Hall is scheduled to be turned off at 4 p.m. Once the water is turned back on, it may be used for bathing, laundry and other non-consumptive purposes.
More information, including details on the implications of the boil water advisory, will be posted on the WMU website as they become available.
