WMU trustees to meet, consider 2016-17 apartment rental rates
KALAMAZOO, Mich.—The Western Michigan University Board of Trustees will meet Tuesday, Dec. 8, for a formal public session that will include the board's consideration of 2016-17 rental rates for campus apartments.
Trustees will meet in formal session at 11 a.m. in 157-159 Bernhard Center. Action items on the board's agenda also include consideration of shared governance language that formally designates WMU's Faculty Senate as the faculty's representative for decisions on institutional matters involving the faculty. As an additional motion, the board will consider language that designates the Western Student Association and the Graduate Student Association as the shared governance representatives for student-related matters.
Additional action items on the agenda are a motion regarding Lansing office space for WMU Government Affairs staff and the selection of a new secretary to the Board of Trustees. The current board secretary, Betty A. Kocher, has decided to step down from the role following the Dec. 8 meeting, and she will retire in June after more than 40 years of service in various roles at WMU. A tribute to her will be part of the board meeting, and she will be honored at additional campus events later in the day.
During the meeting, trustees also will receive and be asked to approve reports covering personnel moves, receipt of gifts and grants, changes to academic programs, and a set of dates for the board's 2016 meetings. On the day of the event, the board meeting will be live streamed online at bit.ly/1Go6KLc.
