Two campus performances set for Tony award-winning musical 'Once'

KALAMAZOO, Mich.—"Once," winner of eight 2012 Tony awards including Best Musical, is coming to Western Michigan University's Miller Auditorium at 7:30 p.m. Monday and Tuesday, Jan. 25-26.

"Once," which was also named Best Musical by the New York Drama Critics’ Circle among other organizations, ran for more than 1,100 performances on Broadway with acclaimed international productions from London and Melbourne to Japan and South Korea.

The musical features features the Academy Award-winning music and lyrics of Glen Hansard and Markéta Irglová and is based on a book by award-winning Irish playwright and screenwriter, Enda Walsh.

"Once" tells the story of an Irish musician and a Czech immigrant drawn together by their shared love of music. Over the course of one fateful week, their unexpected friendship and collaboration evolves into a powerful but complicated romance, heightened by the raw emotion of the songs they create together.

"Once" at Miller Auditorium is part of the PNC Broadway in West Michigan Series. Tickets are on sale now and range from $35 to $65. They can be purchased online at millerauditorium.com, by calling (269) 387-2300 or (800) 387-2312, or in person at the Miller Auditorium Ticket Office.

A 15 percent discount is available to all WMU faculty and staff, and a 50 percent discount is available to WMU students. Discounted tickets may be purchased by phone or in person, and a valid Bronco ID is required at the time of pickup. Group discounts are available at (269) 387-2312.
