University Theatre presents 'Thoroughly Modern Millie'

KALAMAZOO, Mich.—Western Michigan University theatre students will channel the Roaring Twenties with several performances of "Thoroughly Modern Millie" April 8-17 in the Shaw Theatre at the Gilmore Theatre Complex.

Young Millie Dillmount has just arrived in New York City with dreams of being a successful, modern woman in Manhattan. Then she meets Jimmy, a handsome man making his way through the Big Apple on his wits. Based on the 1967 film of the same name, "Thoroughly Modern Millie" opened on Broadway in April 2002. Featuring hit songs such as "Gimme Gimme" and "Not for the Life of Me," the production has won six Tony Awards.

Directed by guest director and Broadway veteran Ann Nieman, the all-student cast includes Katelyn Langwith, Audrey Leigh Johnston, Kianee Truvillion, Nick Angel, Kendall VanAmburg, Lindsey Powers, Adam Graber, Andrew Fedewa, Peyton Reilly, Anisa Henry, Katelyn Weikel, Miggie Snyder, Dayna Palya, Rachel Carreri, Olivia Belfie, Julianna Hirsch, Rachel Zack, Sara Geist, Nick Petrelli, Michael Pacholski, Drew Porret, Nick Smith, Patrick Hill, Matthew Lanyi, Josh Peduto and Jonathan Warner, with stage management by Alexandra O’Parka, Conor Christenson and Jacky Hilliker.

Ann Nieman

An award-winning director and choreographer, Nieman has created 200 productions for respected regional theatres across the U.S. and Europe, most notably "42nd Street," "Jesus Christ Superstar," "Grease," "Evita" and "Little Shop of Horrors." She began her professional performing career as a dancer on Broadway and in several national tours, including "Hello, Dolly!" and "Singin' in the Rain." Throughout her career, she has worked with such notables as Carol Channing and Tim Curry. A native of Texas, she received her B.A. in theatre from North Texas State University.

All seating for "Thoroughly Modern Millie" at Shaw Theatre is general admission. Tickets are $20, $18 for senior citizens and WMU employees, $6 for WMU students and $10 for all other students.
