About the concert

The concert repertoire was picked to illustrate the highs and lows of love, life, death and beyond. The program will open with Johannes Brahms’ "Warum" from his Op. 92 quartets, which describes music rising to heaven and drawing the stars down to earth. Also featured on the concert is Joseph Gregorio’s "Love, Thricewise," an award-winning piece that takes the listener on a lover's journey—from infatuation through heartbreak into good-humored acceptance. The final piece on the first half of the program is Knut Nystedt’s "O Crux," a dramatic motet evoking the radiance of the stars.

The centerpiece of the concert will be J.S. Bach’s Cantata 131, "Aus der Tiefe," based upon the text of Psalm 130, a penitential psalm also known as the "De profundis," or "Out of the depths, I cry to you, O Lord." The cantata will feature soloists Joel Snyder and Max Wagner.
