Concerto competition winners to join WMU Symphony Orchestra in concert
KALAMAZOO, Mich.—The Western Michigan University Symphony Orchestra will present the annual Concerto Concert, its final concert of the season, at 3 p.m. Sunday, April 24, in Miller Auditorium. The event is free and open to the public.
The program will feature the winners of the 2016 WMU Concerto Competition Finals that were held in February. Soloists include undergraduate bassoonist Mingyuan Yang performing Mozart's "Bassoon Concerto in B-Flat Major," graduate flutist Heidi Keener playing Franz Doppler’s "Fantasie Pastorale," and graduate cellist Adriana Fernandez playing Ernest Bloch's "Schelomo Hebrew Rhapsody for Cello and Orchestra." The program also will include Richard Wagner's "Ride of the Valkyries" and Peter Illiyich Tchaikovsky’s brilliant "1812 Overture."
