Kandeiss-Toi Ross obituary

Kandeiss-Toi Ross, a Human Resources assistant senior at Western Michigan University, died Dec. 29. She was 60.

Ross joined the WMU staff and Human Resources in 1989 and had been employed at the University for 27 years. She started as a clerk and moved up in her unit as employment-related regulations and policies changed as well as became more numerous and complex.

Throughout her career, she helped WMU employees and retirees understand their health and life insurance policies, flexible spending accounts, leave applications and other employment rights and responsibilities.

Ross also had long been active in WMU's Professional Support Staff Organization and had worked on several of its committees as well as served on its board in capacities including vice president.

A native of Chicago, she worked for insurance companies there and in Houston before coming to WMU and living closer to her family members in southwest Michigan.

Services

Visitations have been set in Kalamazoo from 5 to 7 p.m. Wednesday, Jan. 4, in the Harper Funeral Home at 521 Douglas Ave. and noon to 1 p.m. Thursday, Jan. 5, in Mt. Zion Baptist Church at 120 Roberson St.

A memorial service will be held at 1 p.m. Jan. 5 in Mt. Zion Baptist Church.
