Business Insider, an online news organization with more than 70 million viewers, has named WMU the most affordable, highly ranked university in Michigan.

Business Insider released its list of the most affordable colleges in each state July 30. Using data from the Chronicle of Higher Education, the publication further filtered its list to include only colleges and universities ranked in the top 220 nationally by U.S. News & World Report. The new ranking uses resident tuition data from the 2016-17 academic year and looks at each school's published tuition and required fees, as well as room and board.

Included on the list are Big Ten universities like University of Wisconsin-Madison and schools from the Mid-American Conference like Bowling Green State University. Total annual cost—tuition and room and board—reflected by the selected schools ranged from a low of $15,041 at the University of Montana to a high of $35,324 at the District of Columbia's Howard University. WMU's published cost for the year was $21,054.
