Gov. Snyder reappoints department chair to state board
KALAMAZOO, Mich.—Gov. Rick Snyder has reappointed Dr. Ola Smith, a Western Michigan University department chair and professor, to the State Board of Accountancy.
Smith, chair and professor in the WMU Department of Accountancy, will continue her work on the nine-member panel, which oversees licensure and certification requirements for certified public accountants and public accounting firms. Snyder also made one appointment and another reappointment to the board. They will serve four-year terms expiring June 30, 2021, and their appointments are subject to the advice and consent of the state Senate.
"These individuals have extensive backgrounds in accounting, and I thank them for their commitment to this board," Snyder says.
Ola Smith
Prior to coming to WMU, Smith worked for the federal Internal Revenue Service, Barrow, Aldridge & Co., Deloitte & Touche, American Corp., and Wayne State University. Smith holds a bachelor of business administration in accounting from the University of Detroit, a master of business administration in finance from Mercy College of Detroit, and a doctoral degree in accounting from Michigan State University. She will continue to represent certified public accountants.
