Men's soccer announces 2018 spring schedule

KALAMZOO, Mich.—The Western Michigan University men's soccer team will kick off its spring schedule Saturday, Feb. 24, with a doubleheader inside the Seelye Center beginning at 3 p.m. against Spring Arbor University and continuing at 6:30 p.m. against Davenport University.

The Broncos will continue their spring season at 6 p.m. Friday, March 16, versus Northwood University at Waldo Stadium. Wrapping up a total of four home matches, WMU will host the University of Detroit Mercy at 6 p.m. Friday, March 23, at Waldo Stadium.

WMU will have two away matches to finish out its spring season. At 2 p.m. Saturday, April 7, the Broncos face Oakland University in Pontiac. The last match of the spring will be against Detroit City FC, a semi-professional team, at 3 p.m. Saturday, April 14, in Hamtramck.

The Broncos finished a historic 2017 season with a 17-4-1 record and an appearance in the Sweet 16 of the NCAA Tournament. WMU won its first-ever regular season Mid-American Conference championship. A program-record eight Broncos were named All-MAC, five to the first team and three to the second team. Seniors Brandon Bye and Drew Shepherd were named men's soccer All-Americans. The Broncos finished the season ranked No. 9 in the United Soccer Coaches poll after being ranked as high as No. 4.

The remarkable 2017 season kept rolling for the Broncos program with Brandon Bye and Drew Shepherd being selected in the 2018 MLS SuperDraft. Bye was selected eighth overall to the New England Revolution, and Shepherd was selected 46th overall to Toronto FC.
