WMU Today to go online, feature self-published announcements
KALAMAZOO, Mich.—New enhancements—including self-publishing—are in store for WMU Today, the compilation of concise campus notices emailed to staff, faculty and retirees each week.
Beginning Wednesday, Oct. 9, WMU Today will become an online repository in addition to a weekly email blast.
As of Monday, Oct. 7, submissions for WMU Today will no longer be accepted by email. With this workflow change, employees will make submissions using the University's content management system.
Anyone with an author role in WMU CMS can create a notice—a new content type in CMS called a bulletin. Those with a publisher role can then publish the bulletin so that it appears immediately on WMU Today online at wmich.edu/wmutoday.
If you do not have a role in CMS, contact an employee in your unit, such as a marketing staff member, who has the CMS access to post and publish your bulletin. For information or questions about WMU CMS, including roles and instructions on how to create a bulletin, contact Bradley Horstman.
Each Tuesday, a digest of five to six bulletins will be sent as an email blast to staff, faculty and retirees. This weekly email will include a link to the entire WMU Today repository displaying all bulletins.
Again, submissions for WMU Today will no longer be accepted by email as of Monday, Oct. 7.
Bulletins are intended to be brief—limited to 800 characters. The types of bulletins appropriate for WMU Today include, but are not limited to, faculty/staff accolades; notifications regarding road closures and campus construction; messages about WMU information technology changes, outages or offerings; on-campus lectures; WMU workshops; retirement receptions and other campus events.
Bulletins submitted and posted on WMU Today online are intended for faculty, staff and retirees. WMU Today should not include announcements intended to reach student audiences. It should also not include messages from outside vendors or businesses, or messages about events not hosted or sponsored by WMU.
