Update: The precautionary advisory was lifted on Friday, June 26.

KALAMAZOO, Mich.—The city of Kalamazoo has issued a precautionary boil water advisory affecting Spindler Hall and the Little Theatre in connection with a water main leak and subsequent repair. No other buildings on campus are affected. In lieu of boiling water for the recommended two minutes, bottled water should be used for consumption. Water fountains will not be accessible for use during the advisory period.

Officials expect the advisory to be lifted by Saturday, June  27, following lab testing of water samples.  City officials issued an advisory for these buildings because the water main repair work resulted in a temporary loss of water pressure. But the advisory is precautionary; there have not been any confirmed tests showing bacteria present in the water main at the location of the repair.

The city's advisory is being issued for all water intended for drinking, ingestion or any consumptive purposes. During the precautionary advisory, it is safe to use the water for personal hygiene. However, bottled water must be used for drinking, which is being made available to residents in Spindler Hall. The Little Theatre is not open.

Officials say that initial water sampling results will be available within 24 hours of collection, and the final set of results will be available within 48 hours. Updates on the status of the advisory will be posted on the WMU news website as they become available.
