KALAMAZOO, Mich.—At its June 24 meeting, the Western Michigan University Board of Trustees authorized the University administration to implement a new one-year agreement between WMU and its 22-member Police Officers Association.

The agreement—effective July 1, 2021, through June 30, 2022—provides a 1% raise for the 20 public safety officers at Western. The two detectives on the force will receive the same 1% raise; however, it will be given as a lump sum payment rather than an increase to their base salary.

The new contract also states the union members will have the same health care plan design and contribution rate as faculty and non-bargaining employees.
