KALAMAZOO, Mich.—As of about 7:30 p.m. Monday, Dec. 13, the city of Kalamazoo issued a precautionary boil water advisory affecting the Bernhard Center, Seibert Administration Building and Henry Hall in connection with a water infrastructure repair. Water was turned off in these buildings during the repair Monday evening.

With service restored, in lieu of boiling water for the recommended two minutes, bottled water should be used for drinking. Water bottles will be available in the Bernhard Center and in Seibert. Henry Hall is not in use. Though the water should not be consumed during the precautionary advisory period, it is safe to use the water for handwashing and bathroom needs.

City officials say the advisory is precautionary only; there have not been any confirmed tests showing bacteria present in the water main at the location of the infrastructure repair.  Initial sampling results will be available within 24 hours of collection and the final set within 48 hours. It is expected the advisory will be lifted within 72 hours, or by Thursday, Dec. 16.

Updates about the repair and any related issues will be posted on the WMU news website as they become available.
