$3,173,952; 3,436 donors; a historic day

KALAMAZOO, Mich.—Alumni, friends, faculty, staff and students united to advance Western Michigan University's mission in a big way on Wednesday, April 13, for Western's fifth and most successful Giving Day.

In total, 3,436 Broncos from all 50 states and around the world made gifts totaling nearly $3.2 million. These donations supported anything and everything across the University from academic departments to RSOs, athletics and more. The event also featured a number of major gifts made by both anonymous and named donors, including a $1.6 million gift to the Student Success Fund.

Throughout the day, there were a number of challenges to boost the impact of individual gifts, including a red-eye challenge that awarded additional funds to areas that received the first gifts of the day and a final countdown that awarded those who received the very last gifts. The Giving Day dashboard including all of the day’s winners is available online.

The campus community capped off the day at celebratory events held in both Kalamazoo and Grand Rapids.

The Office of University Advancement and the WMU Alumni Association orchestrated the one-day giving event, rallying offices, programs and initiatives from across the University to get out the word to their respective audiences to give. Organizers say the entire campus community was responsible for making the day a stunning success and creating an impact for students today and generations to come.
