New General Counsel named at Western
KALAMAZOO, Mich.—Following a national search, Western Michigan University has identified a new General Counsel. Keith Hahn, who currently serves as assistant general counsel for metro Detroit’s Oakland University (OU), is set to begin his tenure as a member of the campus community and President’s Cabinet on Aug. 1.
As assistant general counsel at OU in Rochester, Michigan, for the past 14 years, Hahn has long experience as an attorney in public higher education. Prior to his tenure at OU, he served as an attorney in the auto insurance industry as well as in private practice.
“We have an exemplary new colleague in Keith,” says WMU President Edward Montgomery. “I am confident his extensive experience and diverse legal background will serve Western Michigan University well amid the increasingly complex legal landscape in which we operate.”
Hahn earned his bachelor’s degree in political science from the University of Michigan and his juris doctor from the University of Toledo College of Law.
"I am deeply honored to join Western Michigan University. The steadfast commitment of the Board of Trustees, President Montgomery, and the leadership team, faculty and staff is commendable,” Hahn says.
“As a first-generation college graduate, I have experienced the impact of public education, and I look forward to working for the collective good of our students at WMU. Go Broncos!"
Hahn’s appointment is effective pending Board of Trustees approval.
