Western celebrates summer 2025 graduates earning degrees on June 28

KALAMAZOO, Mich.—Western Michigan University will award degrees on Saturday, June 28, at the summer commencement ceremonies, which will feature President Edward Montgomery’s final address before retirement after nearly eight years at the helm of WMU. 

Ceremonies begin at 9 a.m. in Miller Auditorium and will be livestreamed. Students will receive more than 600 degrees at the bachelor's level, more than 285 at the master's level, more than 40 at the doctoral level and nearly 20 specialist degrees during two commencement ceremonies. Graduates hail from 31 countries including the United States.

In addition to the conferring of degrees and presentation of graduates, there will be vignettes on graduate success and a tribute to graduates. President Montgomery will also provide the final remarks of his presidency. He will retire June 30, and Western’s 10th president, Russ KavalhunaJ.D., will begin on July 1.

All commencement guests, including family members and children of any age, must have a ticket to enter Miller Auditorium. Seating is limited and available on a general admission basis.

Tickets for the Extended Family and Friends Livestream Lounge will be available for graduates to reserve on a first-come, first-served basis starting Monday, June 23, at 8 a.m. through Thursday, June 26, at 11:59 p.m.

WMU conducts formal graduation exercises after the fall and spring semesters and the summer I session, although students also may graduate after the summer II session.
