WMU closes Kalamazoo campuses March 19 due to widespread power outage
KALAMAZOO, Mich.—Power has been restored on Western Michigan University’s Kalamazoo campuses after a widespread outage in the Kalamazoo area. Aside from essential services, the Kalamazoo campuses remain closed and classes are canceled today, Thursday, March 19.
The Grand Rapids campus and the College of Aviation in Battle Creek remain open Thursday.
Please be advised that some network services may still experience intermittent issues as systems come back online. Information Technology is actively monitoring network status and will address issues as they are detected and reported to the Help Desk.
This article will be updated with special hours as information becomes available. Check the University events calendar to confirm whether an event is canceled. Those who have posted items to the calendar are expected to update the event post to indicate whether the activity will continue as planned, transition to a virtual format or be canceled.
Campus services
- All WMU shuttle services are running as normal.
- Valley Dining Center and Student Center Dining will operate during normal hours Thursday but will only have cold options—cereal, milk, bread, cold cuts, etc.—and will focus on serving students with meal plans.
- Campus Cafés and the retail operations on the first floor of the Student Center are closed Thursday.
- The WMU Student Center is open Thursday during its usual hours.
- The game room in the student center is closed Thursday.
- The bookstore and PNC are closed Thursday.
- FedEx is staying open for pickups, but printing of new items will not be available Thursday.
- HÔU JIA is closed Thursday.
- The Student Recreation Center will be open from 5 to 9 p.m. on Thursday.
- Waldo Library and Zhang Legacy Collections Center are closed Thursday.
- The Sindecuse Health Center is closed Thursday.
