Ortiz-Martinez began delving into computers during high school when her geometry teacher convinced her to join the high school FIRST Robotics team and take a beginner-level computer science class. “Flash forward to my first year of college at WMU,” adds Ortiz-Martinez. “I joined the Bronco Cybersecurity Club and got a job at the Office of Information Technology help desk. I fell in love with working with networks, learning about the importance of cybersecurity and potentially learning how to hack.

Software for students with low-vision Dragon Naturally Speaking (version 11), installed on computers in study rooms for privacy, allows students to create documents by using "voice-to-text" technology. JAWS (Job Access with Speech) is installed on some computers in the hub for the convenience of students who are visually impaired. JAWS produces Braille for reading or an internal speech software program called Eloquence to produce audio.
