A new reality
Marketing
Considering COVID-19 has created a new reality, my hopes for the future revolve around being able to adjust accordingly until the crisis has ended. Even under these extreme conditions, I plan to continue my job search for a position in the corporate world. Though my time at Western Michigan University is coming to an end, I would like to acknowledge the vast amount of opportunities I had at WMU.

The experience—along with a WMU alumni connection—helped Delmonico land her first job on a Phase III project at an Oneida village site in Wisconsin. "It was kind of out of the ordinary. For most cultural resource managers, (first jobs) are usually Phase I; not a lot of digging, just walkover surveys," she says.

Dealing with Things While Away
Study Abroad
You will also want to go home with at least a little bit of money because you will need to buy things like textbooks for the spring and pay the first month’s rent for your apartment if you choose to live in one. Some other miscellaneous tasks I had to accomplish while abroad were applying for jobs and signing up for classes. The time period to apply for jobs during the spring semester and many internships during the summer unfortunately falls during the fall which makes applying during your trip somewhat necessary.

Empathy, appreciation and paying it forward
Marketing
Recently, Gipson attended the sales career fair where he got the chance to demonstrate his qualifications for a variety of positions. This was a high point for him, as his confidence and preparation kicked in. “This was an exciting event. I received internship and full-time job offers simply from knowing how to connect and go into detail about why I am the perfect fit for available positions.” That opportunity to network with employers during his senior year was one that Gipson worried would not be possible at one point.
