The father was a magistrate in their village before the family fled to the United States a few years ago, and the mother worked as a nurse. Here, they are struggling to find jobs that pay well enough to support their family. Dylan Coleman holds a large gold flag with a brown "W" on it in a tropical setting. A graduate of WMU's master's degree program in public administration, Wood returned to her alma mater to teach graduate students in the School of Public Affairs and Administration for about two years.

Li Cheng was already working at the American Academy of Child & Adolescent Psychiatry—a nonprofit in Washington, D.C.—when she decided the key to her future success was in Kalamazoo. "I realized my dream job needs professional skills and related working experiences, so I decided to pursue a Ph.D.," says Cheng, who grew up in China. "I chose WMU because the School of Public Affairs and Administration fits my research interests."

This is one of the first pastries I have tried in Norway and also has proven to be one of the most messy! I am not a huge fan of coconut but this pastry does an excellent job balancing many unique ingredients and bringing them together in to one cohesive item. I find skolebrød to be best eaten with a cup of black coffee while reading or studying on a weekday morning.

Volunteering made such an impression on Guensche that she plans to continue working with Meals on Wheels when she moves back home to Grand Rapids to start a job with SeyferthPR. "The feeling of giving back to your community is something everyone should experience. You can take it and apply it to any of your jobs; caring about people, listening to people, finding out what they need instead of focusing on your own needs."
