"The AMP lab is an excellent example of how communities grow stronger when people come together," GRCC President Bill Pink says. "We're partnering with Western Michigan University and our region's employers to give residents skills they need for great jobs as well as their first steps in higher education and pursuit of lifelong learning." Early this month, GRCC began using the space three days a week for its AMP program cohorts.

Bremiller, who plans to pursue master’s and doctoral degrees after graduation, is a teaching assistant and learning assistant for WMU, and also works two jobs to support his education. “I won’t have to take out another loan this semester, which is a huge help,” he says. “From a personal perspective, I’m a big hunter and fisher and I think the DEQ does a good job,” says senior Casey Ludwig. “Our goal is for our senators and representatives to understand that the DEQ is doing a great job of protecting our environment without hindering the economy.” Lessons in lobbying Thirty-five students lobbied on behalf of Michigan environmental policy at the state capital during Lobby Day.

We started small but were gradually able to purchase machinery and equipment to transition into a true tool and die shop. In 2015, we purchased our first business, Michigan Mold, creating ten jobs and investing one million dollars into machines. In 2017, we purchased our second and third businesses, Mach Mold and Fluid Management Solutions. Today, we have three manufacturing facilities with more than one hundred employees.

Illustration of gears The steadily growing supply chain field boasts some of the highest salaries of all business degrees. And, companies will add more than 1.4 million supply chain jobs in the coming year. To meet the demand, WMU has launched two supply chain graduate programs at its Punta Gorda, Florida, location. Courses are offered in a hybrid format with regularly scheduled online instruction and face-to-face meetings three weekends per semester to accommodate professional schedules.

Ainsworth and Ricksgers both moved to Atlanta post-graduation because they liked the vibe of the city and the opportunities in the region, and they began working their first jobs—Ainsworth in staffing and Ricksgers in commercial real estate. Though they were both paying off their student loans and sometimes working side gigs to make ends meet, they began talking about taking the leap to start their own business.

"Gartner's report is a result of what employers view as the perfect job candidate. The overwhelming answer was a blend of engineering, business and information technology skill sets," says Dr. Sime Curkovic , WMU professor of supply chain management.
