On Bouncing Back and BroncoJOBS Earlier this year, Greg Comperchio found himself facing many Michigan workers’ greatest fear: the loss of his job. A marketing major who built his sales skills while still on campus by selling retail advertising for the Western Herald, Comperchio landed his first job at the Lansing State Journal where he sold classified advertising for three years.

“My wife and I were hired as international research faculty by former WMU Provost Tim Light,” said Veeck. “Provost Light had a program to recruit international scholars on campus. My wife and I have two kids, so we wanted jobs on the same campus. We have very much enjoyed working at WMU and living in Kalamazoo, and will always be grateful for the opportunity”. In recent years, Veeck has been working with scholars from the Chinese Academy of Sciences interviewing local husbandry experts and herders in Gansu, Yunnan and Sichuan Provinces in western China.

You should know the top-line takeaways are: 88 percent of WMU graduates were actively engaged—employed or in grad school—within three months of graduation. Median salary of those employed full time was $40,000 to $45,000. 93 percent of those young alumni were satisfied with their jobs, and 87 percent had jobs related to the degrees they earned. You may see positive post-grad figures for other institutions, but you should look carefully at the methodology and timing being used.

Local alumna selected for fellowship, to study parasitology in Israel

Elizabeth Warburton Warburton initially became interested in parasitology through frequent visits to her mother’s family’s farm in Indiana and during a part-time job at a veterinary clinic near South Bend, Indiana. The vet clinic led her to take a course in parasitology at St. Mary’s and introduced her to a "whole new world."
