Haters gonna hate? Responding intelligently to hate speech

Hate speech refers to a broad range of expression of discriminatory hatred toward people. How can we recognize hate speech and better respond to it? Join We Talk for an interactive conversation at the first spring-semester Free Speech Café at 2 p.m. on Wednesday, Jan. 26, in the Lee Honors College Lounge. Panelists will discuss what is/is not covered by U.S. free speech protections and how we can better manage our reactions and responses to hate speech. Jessica Swartz, deputy general counsel and café moderator, will host the discussion with Dr. Candy McCorkle, vice president for diversity and inclusion, and Jennifer Townsend, adjunct professor and executive assistant in the Lee Honors College, and take questions from the audience. Eligible for Signature credit.
