Free speech in the classroom on tap for October cafe

Can universities and colleges restrict free speech? Although students do not shed their constitutional rights to freedom of speech or expression in the classroom, administrators have the legal backing to restrict speech that is harmful to other students. How do we create a classroom environment in which students feel free to share their perspectives on any topic without fear of judgment or retaliation? Join us in person or via livestream for We Talk's October Free Speech Cafe about how free speech—or restrictions on it—affect learning on campus. Jennifer Townsend, executive assistant in the Lee Honors College, will host and moderate the discussion with Professor Dave Paul and WMU honors students Bella Loe Proulx and David Roderick. Open to all students and the public.
