The Evaluation Center

2024-25 Annual Report

The Evaluation Center was established in 1965 at The Ohio State University and relocated to Western Michigan University in 1973. It is a research unit that reports to the Vice President for Research and Innovation. Our mission is to advance the theory, practice, and use of evaluation through scholarship, education, partnership, leadership, and stewardship.

Letter from the Executive Director

Lori Wingate

This past year at The Evaluation Center was one of steady progress and meaningful achievements. From refining our mission, vision, and values to celebrating national recognition for our staff, advancing the Evaluation Lab, hosting professional gatherings, and publishing new scholarly work, we strengthened our local and national contributions to the field. Even amid shifting federal funding priorities, our team remained dedicated to service, collaboration, and advancing evaluation. I invite you to read the full letter to see the many ways we carried our work forward in 2024-25.

2024-25 Activities

The Evaluation Center continued to advance the theory, practice, and use of evaluation by sharing insights through presentations, publications, workshops, and more. Our efforts extended beyond knowledge sharing to fostering meaningful connections and strengthening the evaluation community.

Dr. Jackson's visit included in-person meetings with The Evaluation Center and Evaluation Lab staff and doctoral students. She also gave a presentation for our Evaluation Café series titled, "Evaluation, Engaging Community, Sharing Leadership." Her presentation was followed by a panel discussion about connecting and engaging in the evaluation field. That conversation featured Dr. Jackson and leaders from the Michigan Association for Evaluation, Joint Committee on Standards for Educational Evaluation, and Journal of MultiDisciplinary Evaluation.

Our Evaluation Café features discussions and presentations about evaluation over the lunch hour. Café presenters introduce new ideas, solicit feedback on real-world evaluation issues, and share recent evaluation work.

In 2024-25, The Evaluation Center hosted 10 hybrid presentations featuring 15 speakers on diverse topics.
