AMP Lab Family Open House
Exciting plans are underway for your kids to delve into the future of STEAM. This year's event has expanded, bringing even more hands-on activities, exciting robotic demonstrations, 3D printing, motorized LEGO building, and new interactive experiences for all ages. Save the date for Saturday, April 12 from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. and plan to join us on this journey into the wonders of science, technology, engineering, arts, and mathematics!
WMU Grand Rapids hosts this annual event in the AMP Lab @ WMU space, located at 200 Ionia Ave SW in downtown Grand Rapids, along with our partners Autocam Medical, Bricks 4 Kidz, The Diatribe, Grand Rapids Community College (GRCC), Grand Rapids Public Schools Robotics, the Grand Rapids YMCA, STEM Greenhouse and the West Michigan Center for Arts + Technology (WMCAT). The event is free and open to the public, and registration is not required.
Attendees can discover, explore, and engage with a variety of STEAM activities, including:
- building a simple motorized LEGO model using Technic bricks, axles, and gears
- creating unique block prints using pre-made or hand-carved rubber stamps, ink, and rollers
- exploring plant life through micro photography with a mini camera and microscope lens
- touring the manufacturing lab to see advanced technology in action
- experimenting with wind energy at a wind power station
- watching VEXU robots demonstrate their capabilities
- engaging with autonomous interactive robots that respond to their environment
- browsing a collection of STEAM-themed books for children
- building creative structures with Tinker Toys
- watching a robot draw your name on a ping pong ball
- observing 3D printers in action as they create objects layer by layer
- sitting in a Formula SAE car
