Alex Corpuz

Alex Corpuz is a Medieval Studies Master’s student at Western Michigan University interested in issues of translation, both literal and metaphorical. They focus primarily on the Icelandic sagas and enjoy reading Germanic literature more broadly. In their work with the sagas, they explore questions of identity formation and how English translations may miss the nuance of identification in the original Old Norse. They are particularly interested in the cultural interactions between the Norse and the Sámi on the Scandinavian peninsula, but have also investigated the place and role of nationalism and national identity within saga scholarship.

Prior to coming to Western Michigan, they worked at Ohio Humanities, Ohio's state-based NEH partner, where they worked on projects including job training and education design for high-needs neurodiverse teenagers, research for documentaries and speaking events, and hosting local history events for communities to strive for more equitable archives.
